Welcome to Sustainable Living
At The Heim Residences, we are committed to promoting sustainable living.
Here are some tips and local resources to help you make your stay with us as eco-friendly as possible.
Sustainable practices during your stay
1. Energy Conservation
Energy conservation is crucial for reducing our carbon footprint and lowering utility costs. We encourage you to turn off lights and unplug electronics when not in use, as this simple practice can significantly reduce energy waste.
Additionally, make the most of natural light during the day to minimise the need for artificial lighting. Turning off radiators and manual heaters can also help conserve energy while maintaining a comfortable environment.
We use smart meters and digital thermostats in nearly all of our apartments to monitor and reduce central heating and hot water usage during periods of low occupancy. Our Inspire thermostats have so far contributed to saving over 25,000 tons of CO2 and over 5 million pounds in heating costs!
Together, these practices not only help protect the environment but also contribute to a more sustainable future.
2. Locally Sourced Food Stores
We highly recommend shopping at locally sourced food stores during your stay with us, for many reasons!
Firstly, it supports the local economy by keeping money within the community, benefiting local farmers and producers. This not only helps to create and sustain jobs but also fosters a sense of community.
Locally sourced food often has a smaller carbon footprint compared to food transported from far away, as it reduces the need for long-distance transportation and the associated emissions. This contributes to environmental conservation and helps combat climate change.
Also, locally sourced food is typically fresher and more nutritious since it is harvested at its peak and does not require lengthy storage or preservation processes. Moreover, purchasing local food encourages sustainable farming practices and promotes biodiversity by supporting farmers who grow a variety of crops suited to the local environment.
