Best places to walk your dog in Manchester

With Manchester recently crowned one of the best cities to have a dog, here at The Jacksonheim Boutique, we thought it only right to create a list of the best dog walking spots for you and your pups.

Chorlton Water Park

Chorlton Water Park is a great way for your dog to socialise with other dogs and it offers a good range of walks for you too. Not to mention lots pf places for them to splash about.

Clayton Vale

You can easily make use of Clayton Vale country park and the River Medlock if you live on the Ancoats/Northern Quarter side of the city centre. There are nature walks across the Vale and fantastic wildlife to observe throughout. With four square miles of urban countryside to enjoy, there’s no doubt you’ll come back with a happy dog.

Clifton Country Park

Situated in the Irwell Valley, Salford, almost 120 acres of woods, meadows, ponds and a lake make up Clifton Country Park with open spaces that your dog can enjoy off the lead. Additionally, you can explore the remains of Wet Earth Colliery, which was established around 1740, and enjoy a lakeside walk before visiting the dog-friendly cafe!

Dove Stone Reservoir

Dove Stone Reservoir in Oldham is on the edge of the Peak District National Park, offering a dramatic landscape with stunning views across the reservoir to the South Pennine hills. A popular hotspot throughout lockdown for dogs and owners alike the walk is around an hour’s drive from Manchester’s city centre and There’s a 2.5 mile walk around the reservoir.

Heaton Park

Possibly one of the most well known parks in Manchester, it’s no surprise that this is a favourite walk for all mancunian dogs.  Not only is Heaton Park also the largest park in Manchester, it’s also the largest municipal park in Europe! Situated a few miles north of the city centre. with over 600 acres to explore there is a huge amount of parkland to explore.

Longford Park

Bordering Stretford and Chorlton, Longford Park is perfect for a day put with the whole family, especially for your dog with lots of space for dogs to run around. There are a few treats for owners too with Longford Park Cafe serving hot drinks for the adults and even a petting zoo for the kids.

Worsley Woods

Located in Salford the 75 acres of woodland make this the perfect location for a long walk with your furry friend. Once again, your dog is not the only member of the family that will enjoy this walk with hidden sculptures scattered throughout the woods and a bridge for kids, adults, and dogs to enjoy.

Platt Fields Park

Located in the south of the city, Platt Fields Park is an Edwardian public park spanning 90 acres.  Described by some as a very peaceful place to walk your dog, there are both on and off lead areas where you and your dog can enjoy the open space and lovely scenery of Platt Hall, as well as a lovely boating lake to enjoy.
