An inspiring urban landscape where an outdoor food market, art space and terrace-style seating collide on one sprawling tract, a long-forgotten freight depot carved from Manchester’s industrial past.
Escape to Freight Island has until recently has been something of an enigma, with posters appearing all over the city with little to none information.
The first phase of ‘Escape to Freight Island’ launched in July, Located at Depot Mayfield, you can expect to find an inspiring urban landscape encompassing an outdoor food market, art space and terrace-style seating on one sprawling tract – a long-forgotten freight depot carved from the city’s industrial past.
Depot Mayfield is part of the £1.4 billion regeneration of Manchester’s Mayfield district. Situated on Baring Street, this permanent urban market and festival space has been inspired by international destinations such as Coney Island in New York, Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen and Grand Central Market in Los Angeles.
The journey starts at Platform 15. You, me and us. Lets go somewhere magical. Spaces are limited so please reserve your seat.
Phase one of the launch opened in mid-July 2020 which included their safe + social manifesto and limited capacity to 600 people. After phase one, phase two happened in August, where the capacity was increased to 1,000 people. Once restrictions are lifted again, the Freight Island staff are hoping to expand the capacity and welcome 2,500 people.
At each phase, Escape to Freight Island plan to add even more exciting food and drinks offering.
The entire venue will be sound-tracked by a visionary selection of music, festival takeovers and exclusive collaborations. It will also include a number of different bars, restaurants, food trucks, with retail space and a bike park.
